Dimraeth's NPCs are the backbone of its quest structure, and unlike most Early Access games, Mudtek has published official character lore for the main cast. Six named characters — Alaric Audet, Befr, Manga, Eldorian, Tamsin and Myrll — are profiled on the official site, most of them clustered around Earlwood Village, the first town you reach after the tutorial caverns. In play, they hand out quests, run the shops and services you rely on, and sit at the center of the relationship system that officially promises new conversations, personal quests, and potential romances as bonds deepen. This guide collects each character's official lore in one place, then explains what NPCs actually do mechanically in the current build, so you know who matters and why.
Who's who: the named cast with official lore
Alaric Audet is the legendary folk hero of the group — a towering figure of strength at 6.4 feet, with a weathered look and piercing blue eyes. He lives by honor, independence, and hard-earned excellence, leading through example rather than seeking approval. Community walkthroughs place him as the guild leader you meet in Earlwood's Guild Hall, where he sends new heroes toward the Tower of Faustas and anchors the main story's opening.
Befr is a warm-hearted traveling merchant whose caravan sits in Earlwood Village, selling goods he claims are "of the most exceptional quality." He greets everyone as "my friend" with a trademark "Ho ho!", and keeps his optimism despite the darkness encroaching on Mirkea. His official lore hints that the cheer hides deep wisdom — he speaks of ancient forces, has lived impossibly long, and claims to be "a true friend of nature who once spent a week living among Dryad sisters," not to mention believing squirrels owe him favors.
Manga is a former Minotaur Empire warrior turned Earlwood blacksmith — calm, towering, and marked by cut-off horns that signify his exile for refusing to join a brutal raid on innocents. He follows Praesidiism, a philosophy holding that "true strength lies in protection, not conquest." According to his official profile, he earned the village's respect through his conduct during the Goblin Crisis, which makes his forge one of the first stops for any player working through the Wildwood storyline.
Eldorian is a young elven adventurer defined by curiosity, and officially the first character to greet newcomers at the Guild Hall. He is skilled with spear and spell, splitting his time between the forest and the Hall while dreaming of becoming a hero himself. For most players he is the face of the quest board lifestyle: approachable, enthusiastic, and consistently tied to the Guild Hall's daily flow.
Tamsin is a gifted enchanter with a passion for magical banners, and she is the reason the Guild Hall has any color to it. Despite delicate health, she is energetic and talkative, and her official lore traces an unusual path — she was born in the Great City of Aldoria and studied at the Academy of Arcana before settling in Earlwood. Community players note she is tied to the game's explosive questline in Wildwood, where her craft matters more than it first appears.
Myrll is the cast's tragic figure: exiled by the very forest she once cherished, she lingers at its edge in sorrow. Her official description gives her an ethereal form with doe legs and a fox's tail, and notes that her voice no longer sings. Her arc is written as one of healing, where grief becomes purpose and exile becomes transformation — which is why so much of her quest content sits at the boundary of Wildwood rather than inside Earlwood itself.
The two story figures behind it all
Beyond the village cast, the Steam page names the two poles of the campaign: Sylbos, Last of the Ogre Magi, who seeks to claim Dimraeth and the power upon which it stands, and the venerable wizard Faustas, who recruits you to stand with Mirkea's free peoples against him. Neither has an official character profile yet, so details about their pasts come from in-game dialogue and journals rather than published lore. Community players expect both to get more screen time as later acts arrive during Early Access.

What NPCs do in practice: quests, services, recruiting
Mechanically, NPCs in Dimraeth fill three roles. First, they are quest givers — the Guild Hall board, village tasks like the lost-sheep errand, and character-specific chains all flow through them, as covered in our quests guide. Second, they run services: vendors sell spellbooks and goods, the blacksmith supports crafting, and the wiki community documents facilities appearing at your sanctum once the right people are recruited. Third, they are recruitable: early players report that completing an NPC's quests can eventually lead to that character moving into your base, where they unlock upgrades, provide services, and can even open access to pets — see our pets guide for how that connects.
Two details from community play are worth knowing before you skip dialogue. Early players have found that some NPCs react to your dialogue choices, with a visible meter nudging up when your persona lands well — and that persona choice at character creation appears to shape which responses are available. Nothing official confirms exactly how the meter is calculated, so treat any fixed "gift list" or point values you see elsewhere as unverified.
Relationships, dialogue and romance
The relationship system is where NPC content is heading, and it is official: Dimraeth's Steam description promises that "deeper relationships unlock new conversations, personal quests, and potential romances." In practice that means befriending an NPC is content, not just economy — personal quests sit behind relationship depth according to the game's own feature list. What nobody can confirm yet is the full romance picture: Mudtek has not published a roster of romanceable characters, and the community is still mapping requirements. Our romance guide separates what is confirmed from what is still being figured out.

NPCs in co-op: who keeps the friendship
Co-op players should note one official rule about persistence: your hero's level, equipment, inventory, spells, and personal progression travel between worlds, but story progress, recruited allies, and buildings remain tied to each world. In other words, the Manga you recruited — and any relationship you built with him — lives in the world where it happened, not on your character. Groups deciding whose campaign to invest in should factor that in, since a sanctum full of friendly NPCs is a world-level asset. For the geography behind all of these characters, the Mirkea map guide covers every named region, and the world and quests hub pulls the whole category together.
